Bonzai Cliff is simultaneously one of Saipan's most beautiful and solemn places.  In the last days of World War II, Bonzai Cliff was one of the two places on
Saipan where Japanese citizens and soldiers, aware of the impending American victory, chose death over surrender.  They cast themselves over the edge
of the cliff and onto the sharp rocks and churning waters below.

Today Bonzai Cliff is the home of several peace memorials, most of them built by the Japanese.
